A 2016 report by ISAPS showed that butt augmentation was one of the top ten cosmetic surgery procedures performed today, with the Brazilian butt lift being the main reason why.
There’s no butt augmentation procedure that can provide the kind of contouring that a Brazilian butt lift can, one of the many reasons why it’s such a popular choice amongst women. Unlike butt implants, the Brazilian butt lift uses your body’s own fat, giving you the safest and most natural results possible.
As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, patients will require some downtime in order to recover and the only way to see the best possible results is to follow your surgeon’s post-care instructions to the letter.
Brazilian butt lift recovery tips
Below are a few tips that will make your recovery process easier and ensure that you see the results you’re hoping for:
- Stay off your butt
It’s not until you undergo a butt augmentation procedure that you realise how much you sit down during the day. From sitting behind a desk at work and on a comfy seat at the movies to sitting at the dinner table or on the edge of your bed when you just wake up, sitting is a major part of our lives.
If you’re a Brazilian butt lift patient though, you’re not going to be able to do this, not for 10 – 14 days after your surgery anyway, with the exception of going to the bathroom of course.
The reason why you need to stay off your behind is because your new fat cells need time to settle and heal. And by sitting down, you’re putting unnecessary pressure on them, while restricting their blood flow. This could cause the fat to shift or even die.
This also means that you will need to sleep on your stomach or side for at least 2 weeks. If you’re worried that you will roll onto your back, you could place a pillow or even a tennis ball behind your back to stop this from happening.
- Make it comfortable with painkillers
There is going to be some mild pain and discomfort as you recover, with a high chance of bruising and swelling, particularly in the areas where the excess fat was removed. Fortunately, your doctor will prescribe pain medication to make the recovery process more comfortable so take the medication as prescribed to make this a more pleasant process.
- Don’t be scared to move
While patients are discouraged from engaging in any strenuous or high-impact activity for at least a month after their surgery, some light exercise is a good idea. Walking around will improve your blood circulation, helping you heal faster.

- Use the compression garments
Your compression garments will stop your tissue from swelling and will help minimise discomfort, ensuring you see the best contouring results possible. Your compression garments should ideally be worn for at least 8 weeks.
- Patience is key
It’s important to note that you will need to wait for all the swelling to go down before you can see the true results of your surgery, a process that can take up to 6 months. Patience is an important part of the recovery process.
By following your surgeon’s exact instructions, you can make your recovery process a pleasant experience.
